Bio

Shel Brodsgaard is the former Canadian National Soccer Association National Teams Goalkeeper Coach (2000-2006) and most recently worked with Toronto FC in the MLS as the Video Analyst (2011 season). He is currently the Director for Coaching and Player Development for the VIPL Riptide Franchise and hads been working for KSS Soccer Center for Excellent for the past 1.5 years. Shel is a recognized NCCP B-License Coach and a graduate of the University of Victoria (1998) earning a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. In 2013 Shel started the Vancouver Island Soccer Academy based out of the Comox Valley in British Columbia. The success of the training academy was well received by the 100 players who participated in the program the first year and 150 players in the second year (all ranging in age from 9 years to 16 years). He has also been hosting residential camps on Denman Island since 2000. Each year, players from across Canada come to Denman Island to experience the beauty of the Gulf Island and explore their passions on the soccer field. It has been a pleasant reward to watch these programs grow and observe the improvement in all of the players and coaches who take part. Shel comes from a long history of soccer enthused and teaching family, as his father is a former goalkeeper and both parents are retired school teachers. A former professional player with international coaching experience who grew up in Victoria, BC, Shel has made it his passion to provide opportunity and training for the next generation of youth soccer players and community level coaches.
