VIPL Info

What is the VIPL?

The Vancouver Island Premier League ( VIPL ) is a BC Soccer-sanctioned, Island-based competitive league composed of teams from both the Upper Island Soccer Association ( UISA , which is from Campbell River south to Ladysmith), and the Lower Island Soccer Association ( LISA , which is from Duncan south to the Greater Victoria area). It is the second highest tier of four recognized by BC Soccer. VIPL is equivalent to Metro/Select, and teams compete provincially at the “A” Cup level.

History

The inaugural season for the VIPL was in 2011/12, with seven UISA and 15 LISA boys and girls’ teams at the U14 and U15 age divisions. The 2012/13 season saw the VIPL add a U16 age division. The 2013/14 season will see the VIPL add an additional U17/18 age division to the League.

Teams

UISA has two (2) regions or “zones”. The North Zone franchise, the RIPTIDE , consists of players from Campbell River Youth Soccer, Comox Valley United Soccer and Powell River Youth Soccer. The South Zone franchise, the STORM, consists of players from Alberni Valley Youth Soccer, Gabriola Youth Soccer, Mid-Isle Youth Soccer, Nanaimo Youth Soccer and Oceanside Youth Soccer.

League Play / Season

VIPL teams play weekly during the regular season, from September to February. Standings determine the matchups for the League Playdowns at the end of the regular season. The winner of the League Playdowns earns the right to represent Vancouver Island in both the Coastal “A” Cup tournament and the Provincial “A” Cup tournament.

Regular season and Playdown games are played in Island communities from Campbell River southward, except for Powell River. For every two home games, each UISA team plays one away game at a LISA club. Girls play on Saturdays, boys play on Sundays.

Player Registration

There are no boundaries for UISA’s VIPL players – they can play for either the RIPTIDE or the STORM. Regardless, all players MUST register with their Home Club. A Home Club is determined by where one resides – UISA’s eight clubs and boundaries are located on the UISA website. All players MUST pay their Home Club’s registration fees and any other applicable rep/select fees by their Home Club’s registration deadlines. Please consult your Home Club for exact costs and dates. Non-registered players are not permitted to practice or play, and are subject to suspension.

Code of Conduct

VIPL Players and Parents are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct. Forms will be distributed for review and signature at the start of the season.
